Takedown is Tsutomu Shimomura and John Markoff’s first-person account of the technical investigation that led to Kevin Mitnick’s 1995 arrest, written by the security researcher whose systems Mitnick was accused of breaching and the journalist who covered the case for The New York Times.

The book became the basis for the 2000 film of the same name and was heavily criticized by Mitnick and his supporters as a one-sided, self-serving account that exaggerated both Mitnick’s threat and Shimomura’s role in catching him.
