TAP No. 53 - Meeting Phone Phreaks at Trade Shows, THC-79 Conference, Microcomputer Blue Box Tones

Opens with a tongue-in-cheek guide for phone phreaks to identify one another at electronics trade shows by turning name badges around and writing their area code on the back. The bulk of the issue is devoted to the Technological Hobbyist Conference (THC-79), to be held at a Diplomat Hotel in New York in spring 1979, with registration costs, a call for speakers, and a ‘Freebee Table’ for attendee-printed handouts. A technical column begins a multi-part series on generating MF (multi-frequency) blue-box tones using a home microcomputer, discussing the hardware options (dual accumulators vs. digital-to-analog conversion) needed to produce the tone pairs in software.
