Kevin Mitnick News Archive

Kevin Mitnick (1963–2023) was an American computer security consultant, author, and one of the best-known hackers of the 1980s and 1990s. He was also my best friend.

I met Kevin through the Los Angeles phreaking community in the late 1980s. We quickly became close friends and later co-founded Defensive Thinking, developed and taught social engineering prevention courses, and collaborated on numerous penetration testing and security awareness projects.

Over the years, I noticed it was becoming increasingly difficult to find reliable historical material about Kevin’s extraordinary career. Much of it had disappeared behind paywalls, vanished with dead websites, been buried under misinformation, or been lost through well-intentioned data scrubbing. I realized there wasn’t a single place that brought it all together, so I decided to start building one.

This archive is still a work in progress. Every new source tends to uncover several more, making the project much larger than I originally expected.

The goal of this page is to serve as a central reference for published material related to Kevin Mitnick. I’m continuing to add new material as I find it. If you know of something that should be included, please get in touch. If you’d like to be notified when new material is added, please join the mailing list.
